Bandra Movie Review

Bandra has been delayed for so long before finally releasing during the Diwali festival. The movie marks the debut of Tamannah in Malayalam with Dileep playing a mass hero character after ages. Directed by Arun Gopi, Bandra presents a love story in the backdrop of 90s Bombay & underworld. Udayakrishna, after some debacle is back to scripting another commercial entertainer. Honestly, the makers shouldn’t have made the decision to make an undercooked gangster story set in 90s.

The movie opens to an animated prelude trying to establish the lead character and the title of the movie. The initial sequences interested the viewers invoking the curiosity but the movie started losing its way as soon as it dives into the main story. The heroic elevations needed a better setup to convince the viewers and the elements to back up the world of a commercial protagonist was undone by weak writing. This was a real issue in the latter half since the conflicts and the heroic moments were shoddy. The series of subplots were poorly written and indeed had no absolute reason to be connected to a rather dull main plot.

The biggest downfall was the pitiful portrayal of the protagonists. On one hand, the hero looked so confused about his over the top characterisation. In reality, his character seemed so ordinary despite all the fuss surrounding him. The heroine deserved better character arc as the whole damsel in distress kind of portrayal was so amateurish. The shabby visuals and terrible frames undermined the character even further. It looked like they shot some second grade tiktok videos to represent a Bollywood heroine.

The action sequences were so appalling as it never had one high stake combat scene to justify the conflict it builds. This was the case with the background music which went stale for the major part. The antagonist was pretty decent with a restrained performance and Dino Morea matched up to the expectation of a posh villain. This was the case with Kalabhavan Shajon who took by surprise. He was mixing the hindi & Malayalam dialect pretty well. The execution couldn’t have done anything miraculous due a shoddy script and screenplay but Arun Gopi went waywyard in the latter half to make Bandra a terrible watch.

A poorly executed movie made on an abysmal and third-rate script and screenplay followed by a silly post credit scene making no sense. Avoidable..!!
