‘Vettaiyan’ collects above INR 180 Crore Globally in the Opening Weekend…!!!!


After registering the 10th best global opening for a Tamil Movie, Vettaiyan went on to make around ₹185 Cr in the 4-Day Opening weekend. The Rajinikanth starrer enjoyed the advantage of holidays in the domestic market to the fullest while the overseas market reported close to $8M in the Opening weekend.

Domestic Circuits

In the home state of Tamil Nadu, the film got off to a fabulous start by grossing above ₹70 Cr in the Opening weekend. This is the second highest Opening weekend in the region behind GOAT. The film saw above 31 lakh admits in Tamil Nadu. The state of Kerala also saw a favorable word of mouth by selling over 6 Lakh tickets in the Opening Weekend. Vettaiyan grossed ₹12.80 Cr, which is the highest Opening weekend for a Tamil movie in the state surpassing GOAT. By Monday, the film is set to go past the final collections of the Vijay starrer in Kerala.

In Karnataka, Rajnikanth starrer is second highest for a Tamil film behind Vijay’s GOAT, reporting ₹14.50 Cr in the 4-Day extended Opening weekend. Rajini’s audience in AP/TG region seems like being tested with Vettaiyan. The film couldn’t create major inroads despite being Dussehra holidays. The performance of the film in the North India region was subpar, as it could muster only ₹4.50 Cr in the region. This is way below Vijay’s GOAT despite having the presence of Amitabh Bachchan.

International Circuits

Vettaiyan registered the fifth highest opening for a South Indian movie in 2024. The film made a stunning $3.17M on the Opening Day, which is the second highest Tamil movie behind GOAT.

In the Middle East Territory, the film collected around $1.85M in the opening weekend, recording the 12th biggest opening weekend for a Tamil film and 4th best for Rajinikanth. Top 4 films of the actor in this region are as follows:
