Venom: The Last Dance Trailer Breakdown & Analysis, Potential MCU Connection Explained..!!

The hype meter increases as the final trailer of Venom: The Last Dance released. The official reveal of Knull – The Symbiote God and clues of potential connection to MCU’s Spider-Man 4 and lot more are inside the trailer. Let’s deep dive into it!

The trailer opens with Venom gripping the side of an airplane mid-flight, immediately setting the stage for a high-stakes confrontation. Suddenly, an incoming attack is launched toward them. Previously some speculated that this creature might be Venom Rex from ‘Old Man Logan’ comics, but it’s now clear that it is a Xenophage. In the comics, Xenophages are an alien race renowned for hunting symbiotes, making them a formidable threat. These predators are not only more powerful than symbiotes but also have a mysterious origin. What’s clear is their appetite for the brains of symbiote hosts. Hosting a symbiote increases dopamine levels in the brain, meaning the longer someone has been bonded to a symbiote, the more appealing their brain becomes to the Xenophages.

In the case of Eddie Brock, who has been bonded to Venom for years, his brain would be a full-course meal for the Xenophages – a perfect target. To escape the incoming threat, Eddie takes a desperate leap from the airplane, using Venom as a parachute. This moment evoked my memories of Venom’s wings from the Insomniac Spider-Man 2 game. This parachute scene is hinting that Venom might acquire wings at some point in the movie. If that’s the case, it could lead to some epic moments down the line. But how did the Xenophages find their way to Earth after lurking in the depths of space for so long? The answer lies with none other than Knull, the Symbiote God! Knull has officially been revealed in the trailer, confirming long-standing rumors that he will be the film’s primary villain. While the actor portraying Knull remains unknown, many speculations are across social media, with many fans suggesting it could be Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) fame. Now, let’s dive into Knull’s dark history.

Knull, the Symbiote God is the main antagonist

Venom was originally conceived as a character retconned from Spider-Man’s black suit in the Secret Wars storyline. Over time, Marvel expanded the symbiote lore, introducing characters like Carnage and Riot. Eventually, Marvel crafted a proper origin story for the symbiotes, and at the heart of that story is Knull – known as the God of Darkness. Knull was born in the void between the end of the old cosmos/universe and the dawn of the new one, a time when the Celestials were bringing life and light to the cosmos. Chosen by the Celestials to serve as their “King in Black,” Knull betrayed them. From the shadow cast by their light, Knull forged a weapon – a sword of darkness – and used it to sever the head of a Celestial. Exiled into the darkness by the surviving Celestials, Knull’s thirst for power only grew. In the darkness, he created the first symbiote, using the remains of the Celestial’s head to craft the All-Black, also known as the Necrosword. This sword holds great significance in the Marvel universe, as another version of it was wielded by Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love & Thunder. Knull’s reign of terror continued as he unleashed the power of the Necrosword across the cosmos, slaying gods and wreaking havoc. This earned his weapon the fitting moniker of the “Godslayer.”

Knull crafted the Necrosword, a similar weapon was wielded by Gorr the God Butcher

However, Knull’s destructive spree came to an end when a time-displaced Silver Surfer intervened. In an epic battle, the Surfer managed to defeat Knull and steal the Necrosword, significantly weakening the dark god’s powers. Left dying on a desolate planet, Knull’s grip on the universe seemed all but lost. Yet, in his final moments, Knull’s dark influence persisted. From the remains of the planet’s living creatures, he birthed new symbiotes – marking the beginning of the symbiote race. Using his hive mind ability, Knull was able to control all symbiotes, bending them to his will. With this army at his command, Knull set his sights on total cosmic dominance. As his influence spread, symbiotes banded together, merging into massive dragon-like creatures that attacked Asgard. Thor, however, intervened, slaying one of these symbiote dragons and, in doing so, weakening Knull’s connection to his creations. With Knull’s control diminished, the symbiotes broke free from his influence. Some symbiotes, having bonded with Asgardians and gained light-based powers, turned against their creator. United, they managed to imprison Knull in a cage, one from which he could never escape. The symbiotes encircled this cage, creating what would become the first living planet in the Marvel Universe: The Planet of The Symbiotes!!

Thor vs Knull in Marvel Comics

As we move into the movie’s storyline, it seems Knull is gradually regaining strength as the symbiotes weaken over time. We know from the trailer that both Venom & Riot originated from the Planet of the Symbiotes. Knull’s ultimate goal is to reclaim his former glory by retrieving the Necrosword, his original source of power, and ascending once again to godhood. We know that Silver Surfer and Thor don’t exist in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. This leaves an intriguing possibility: Venom himself may be the first symbiote a.k.a All-Black, or Necrosword, in this continuity. If this theory holds, Venom could be central to Knull’s return, as the dark god may see him as the key to unlocking his lost power. When you consider the trailer alongside Knull’s backstory, it becomes clear that Knull isn’t just returning for conquest – he’s coming specifically for Venom. This would explain why Venom is now a dire threat to Earth. If Knull succeeds in reclaiming the Necrosword through acquiring Venom, it could spell doom not just for Eddie Brock but for the entire world.

Knull is coming specifically for Venom

One of the original plans for Spider-Man: No Way Home was to feature a crossover with Tom Hardy’s Venom. Most likely, Eddie Brock and Venom might eventually travel to another universe at the end of Venom 3 – possibly the Sacred Timeline of the MCU – as they try to escape Knull. Theories surrounding Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, suggesting that the movie will incorporate multiversal elements, with Knull emerging as the main villain. This has led to speculation that Venom 3 could end with Venom separating from Eddie and venturing through the Multiverse, eventually landing in the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. If this happens, Spider-Man 4 could set the stage for Knull to be the central antagonist, creating a significant crossover event. Since Venom: The Last Dance is expected to be the final film in the Venom franchise, we might see Venom only in future MCU projects, particularly Spider-Man 4 and Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s also highly likely that Venom will become Spider-Man’s iconic black suit, coming full circle at the event of Secret Wars, where everything began in comics. Apart from these, we also get a closer look at Venom Fish, which was already confirmed from Merchandise alongside Venom Frog.

Venom: The Last Dance will be released worldwide on 25 October 2024, being the final film of the Venom franchise. But ‘Sony Spider-Man Universe’ will still continue with other upcoming films like ‘Kraven The Hunter’ and ‘El Muerto’
