‘Thalapathy Vijay’ starrer ‘The Greatest of All Time’ earns over INR 100 Crore globally on Day 1..!!!!


The Greatest of All Time was opened to mixed reviews and reported contrasting collections across various territories. The film benefitted mostly from the home state of Tamil Nadu & Overseas. Finally, the film has managed to secure ₹100 Cr globally on Day 1. This means that the Kollywood has two ₹100 Cr plus opening which belongs to Thalapathy Vijay.

Domestic Circuits

In Tamil Nadu, the film has grossed over ₹31 Cr on Day 1, making it the 4th ₹30 Cr plus grosser in the home state for Thalapathy Vijay. He is the only actor to breach ₹30 Cr on the opening day in the state. The Top 3 Day 1 before GOAT are:

  • Beast     – ₹35 Cr
  • Leo        – ₹34 Cr
  • Sarkar   – ₹31.75 Cr

In the state of Karnataka, the film managed to secure around ₹10 Cr after reporting over ₹8 Cr tracked gross. The film earned just over ₹3.50 Cr in the Telugu states, the performance remained subpar in this area. In Kerala, the film could add only muster around ₹4.90 Cr tracked gross. It was earlier reported that the film will be playing around 4000 shows but poor WOM spoiled the party. The Venkat Prabhu film only managed to play around 2619 shows and posted roughly ₹5.80 Cr gross in the state. The North India Nett was reported around ₹2.80 Cr and ₹3.40 Cr gross, without the Hindi version playing in the PIC Chains.

The overseas market also seems to have weathered the initial unfavorable reviews. Thalapathy Vijay starrer has managed to secure the 3rd spot in the list of highest opening Tamil movie in the overseas by grossing over $5.62M. The Top 5 Day 1 are as follows:

  • Leo                      – $8.15M
  • Kabali                  – $6.50M (Including Thursday Previews)
  • GOAT                   – $5.62M
  • Ponniyin Selvan – $5.10M
  • Jailer                   – $4.80M

The film opened to $1.32M in the Gulf markets, which is the 4th highest for a Tamil movie in the region. The Top 5 Day 1 in this area are:

  • Leo        – $2.39M
  • Kabali   – $2.10M (Including Previews)
  • Bigil       – $1.50M
  • GOAT    – $1.32M
  • Jailer     – $1.17M

The film made a decent debut at the North America Box-Office by grossing over $1.50M including the premieres. The breakdown of Day 1 & Premieres are as follows:

  • USA       – $790K P + $215K Day 1
  • Canada – $330K P + $170K Day 1

The UK territory slowly picked up despite a dull advance sale, to register around GBP 387K on Day 1. The film earns $492K on Day 1 & $20K from the premieres. This is the 4th Highest overall and 2nd highest Tamil film after Leo which made around GBP 576K in the region. GOAT also added another $575K from the Europe territory. The combined total from Australia & New Zealand is around $240K. Top 3 Day 1 in New Zealand now belongs to Thalapathy Vijay, as follows:

  • Master  – NZ$58,850
  • GOAT    – NZ$52,687

Top 5 Day 1 in Australia are as follows:

In other Asian territories, GOAT is doing exceedingly well. In Sri Lanka, the film is already the highest opening grosser with $240M while it takes the second highest opening behind Leo in Malaysia & Singapore.

The rest of the world territories contributed around $110K. Overall the film earned around $4.47M on Day 1 and $1.15M from premieres in the overseas market alone.
