‘Singham Again’ Trailer Decoding & Review..!!

The trailer for Singham Again has just arrived with a run time of nearly 5 minutes. This is the lengthiest trailer ever for a Hindi film. Netizens were literally shocked when the runtime of the trailer was announced on social media, a day before the release of the trailer. Everyone wanted to know what is in this trailer. Some even speculated that the entire plot will be revealed in the trailer. Regardless of that, Singham series has a cult following and ever since Rohit Shetty announced the Cop Universe, the mass hysteria surrounding Singham has grown manifold. Singham Again, in all likelihood, will take the universe to the next level as the film’s trailer has just unleashed an ‘Avengers’ like union of heroes. The movie’s cast is so big that it is difficult to bring all the lead actors in one frame. Trust me when I say this. The last shot of the trailer is the proof. Let us dive into the trailer.

So, the trailer starts with a pan shot of Ajay Devgn as Bajirao Singham, who is somewhere in Jammu & Kashmir with a battalion of police officers. Probably, this is where he is going to bring down Omar Hafez, played by Jackie Shroff. For those who don’t know, Omar Hafez is the leader of terrorist organisation Lashkar, who makes an appearance in Sooryavanshi. There was a leaked footage showing both Ajay Devgn & Jackie Shroff fighting on snow. So, this has to be that scene and it is soon transitioned to Avni Kamat, played by Kareen Kapoor.

They are married now and have a son together. She is running a show on Ramayan and it is ‘Ram Leela’. The trio share a conversation, during which the son gets schooled about true love by Avni, who uses Ramayan as the reference. There is more deliberate ‘Ramayan’ discussion. Now, the son has a question for his dad, ‘If your wife is kidnapped by some Raavan, will you travel like what Ram did to save Sita.?’ Again, the son gets schooled by Singham for not properly researching about his dad. Well, the director is not subtle here. He decides to let the audience know that Singham Again is nothing but Ramayan in disguise. We’ll find it out soon.

Is the whole scene a strategy to pacify the majority.? If someone thinks, the conversations can be drawn parallel to a certain political strategy, we cannot blame them. Do we.? In between the scenes, we see that Singham has finally captured Omar Hafez and paraded him before the public. But there is more Ramayan reference. Avni is kidnapped by the mysterious Raavan and Singham wows to burn Lanka. Glimpses of Ram Leela, probably from Avni’s theatre play, can be seen, when Singham picks up Avni’s bangle from the ground.

More such glimpses are shown in parallel throughout the trailer. We could see fire explosions, helicopters launching missiles, more importantly Singham using a weapon similar to M2 Browning. In one such shot, we see a helicopter and a rally car circling around Singham & probably, Avni at his back. Probably, this would be the climax port sequence, which is shown in the climax portions of the trailer. We could see Sangram, played by Ranveer Singh & Satya, played by Tiger Shroff in the car and none other than Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi would be in the helicopter.

Again, it goes back to an earlier episode where Singham is seen investigating Omar. This could well be the scene that triggers future events in the film. Omar gives a warning about the antagonist of the film, unnamed Raavan, played by Arjun Kapoor. He is similar to the Butcher Aziz from Animal. He wears a black shirt, holds a butcher knife in his mouth and is seen massacring policemen inside a police station, possibly to rescue his three henchmen from jail. This police station could be under the charge of our new lady Singham, Shakti played by Deepika Padukone. She is seen arriving in a police jeep during a temple festival and fights some goons. Yes, these are the same goons shown in the jail before, when Raavan was murdering the police officers.

We could also see her random action scenes from the climax port sequence as well. Now enters Satya, who is seen fighting with Urumi, while Singham’s police team is seen guarded by a shield set. He is bowing down at Singham’s feet, who wishes to be Singham a.k.a Ram’s Lakshman. At this time, glimpse of Ram & Lakshman is shown in parallel.

This whole sequence is taking place in Tamil Nadu and probably both Satya & Sakthi are Tamils. But the entire setup of a mansion like house looks like a typical Kerala manor. Another incorrect representation of South in a Rohit Shetty Film. Not Again Rohit Shetty. Whatsoever, the significant event in the storyline takes place here. Somehow, Avni would be kidnapped from here during her ‘Ram Leela’ show and probably in this fight, Tiger gets an injury behind his ear. We could also see Singham in the same outfit, when he picks up the bangle in an earlier shot. Now Singham wants to undertake a covert operation in the neighbouring country. It is obvious that the nation is Sri Lanka when Singham says that his will be the third operation in the history. I wish to believe he was hinting at Operation Pawan & Operation Poomalai.

Right then, we have Sangram in action and bowing to the feet of Singham. This time, the visuals of Hanuman at Ram’s feet is shown in parallel.

We see everyone falling at Singham’s feet, which means he is the GOD. Well, that is a remarkable character development of sorts. This is where we see Raavan kidnapping Avni and looks like the same burnt Kerala mansion in Tamil Nadu. And we also Sakthi crying before the funeral pyres. This could be the policemen murdered by Raavan and we see a furious Singham confronting Omar. What if he is in search of some other information.? Well, we get to see a backshot of a man wearing a long shawl, who is escorted by army officers to a helicopter. Is he the main antagonist or a future villain.?

Or he could be the reason for Raavan’s actions. If Ram built Ramsetu in Ramayan, then Singham is about to leave on a war ship. Also, I was expecting a Maratha dialogue from Singham and here it comes.

Amidst all these stars, Daya from original Singham film shines in an action scene. He is good though I doubt his fate in this scene since he is guarding Avni and no one could be seen besides him. And then more Ramayan. Now I get to believe that this is entirely Ramayan disguised as Singham. We see Sangram fighting in a wedding function, where people are dressed up in ethnic wear to make us believe that they are Tamils. There is more Ramayan-esque conversation between Raavan & Avni in the layer of Raavan. In the beginning of the trailer, we see Avni getting shot by an unknown assailant. Looks like, she got hit by a bullet but still sits calmly in a hospital bed giving motivational lessons, with a basic dressing for bullet wound.

Now we see Singham & Sangram in a car, being tricked by the bad guys similar to Casino Royale style. The bad guys are in the middle of the road with an unknown girl, maybe Avni, due to which their car gets capsized. This is at the same spot in the port but happens at night. Guess, they get captured by the bad guys and probably would be saved by the rest of the team or is there a surprise cameo.? In the next scene, Singham & Avni are getting reunited in the climax port scene and are saved by an explosion of a truck which was on their way to ram them. That explosion is from none other than Sooryavanshi a.k.a Jatayu.

Now we see the same scene shown earlier, where Singham & Avni are circled by a helicopter and a rally car. So, this is the climax of Singham that ends with Avengers scene, way back from 2012. Why would Rohit Shetty in the name of hyping up, spoil the entire movie with a trailer.? And this trailer is Ramayan, full of jingoistic references and propagating religion. But yet, Deepika‘s Sakthi could find a place for her modern day Ramayan.
