RDX Review

There was a generation in Mollywood that celebrated a brand of unapologetic action and combat scenes. A section of audience loved watching such non stop action movies on big screen. Presently, that crowd is still there but we lack makers who would tap into this zone. And the result is that we have a huge dearth of commercial movies.

Last year, we had Thallumala which was promoted as a new generational ‘adi idi’ (action) cinema. But sadly there aren’t many memorable action movies for a long time. Now in 2023, we have a couple of action movies competing this Onam season.

RDX might not have that star presence but has definitely cracked the action genre. The film world used to say that content is the king. More than that, the packaging and presentation of good content will definitely draw audience to theatres. RDX is an out and out action frenzy that is well packaged and tidily presented.

Rarely we see films that jump into the conflict from the word go. Likewise, the viewers are pulled into the world of RDX. Debutant director Nahas Hidayath has created a striking scene that will definitely make the audience empathize with the antagonists. A well built clash is handsomely developed that connects the past and the present.

The story arc is complete by the time a spectacular intermission scene arrives. This is one of the finest action sequences that is made on a grand scale. Apart from action, comedies and romance portions were pleasing. Such romance tracks and dance portions are something youngsters would hope for.

There are 2 major driving forces behind the terrific action sequences in RDX. One is Sam CS who elevates each and every moment and makes the audience glued to the film. The other being the choreographers Anbarivu who literally makes the audience jump out of the seats and feel the punch. The sound effects and choreography are phenomenal in RDX.

Last but not the least, the performances are noteworthy. RDX trio of Shane Nigam, Antony Varghese & Neeraj Madhav have their roles of a lifetime. Antony Varghese impressed in action sequences and delivered some fine emotional moments.
The climax scene is a surprise for 90s kids.

Verdict : RDX has the grandeur of an epic action cinema with a lot of memorable moments.
