Aamir Khan joins Rajnikanth & Lokesh Kanakaraj’s Coolie.!
There were strong speculations doing rounds about a potential Lokesh Kanakaraj – Aamir Khan project. One twitter account posted news about the possible collaboration between the actor & director for a film to be produced under Mythri Movie Makers. However, there was no official announcement from the producers or from the sources close to Aamir and Lokesh. But the rumors were so strong since the pictures of them meeting together were circulating on social media.
But now we have an official confirmation about their meeting. The big news is that Lokesh has not narrated a fresh script to Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan but offered a very prominent role in Superstar Rajnikanth starrer ‘Coolie‘.
Earlier in their meeting, Aamir Khan had okayed the initial script and wanted to have a detailed discussion regarding the project before accepting the role. Finally, Lokesh has pulled off one of the most unexpected multi star union for ‘Coolie‘. It was said that Aamir Khan was offered a very prominent role with antagonistic traits and he liked the initial idea that Lokesh pitched before him. Generally, Aamir reads the entire script in detail before choosing the project and sources confirm that he has finally confirmed to be a part of ‘Coolie’.
‘Coolie’ was announced as a standalone feature film that is not associated with ‘LCU’ and the story reportedly deals with gold smuggling. Ever since the announcement, the makers were looking to enhance the scale of the movie with major cast additions. They held discussions with Fahad Faasil who couldn’t sign the project citing date issues. The discussions were going on with ‘Aamir Khan’ to play a very significant role since August 18 and the talks have finally materialized. Further details about his character in the film is awaited. It needs to be seen whether ‘Rajnikanth’ & ‘Aamir Khan’ will be set against one another or both play the protagonists in ‘Coolie’.
The filming of the much awaited ‘Coolie’ started on July 5, which was announced by Sun Pictures with a special poster on their twitter handle.
Earlier, the makers had announced the title with a teaser on April 22 and they even completed a short schedule on July 19 in Hyderabad. Shruthi Hassan, who was cast as the female lead in the film, was part of the schedule. Also, veteran actor Sathyaraj had confirmed himself to be a part of the cast which is yet to be announced officially. The music of ‘Coolie’ is handled by the talented ‘Anirudh Ravichander’, marking his fourth collaboration with the Superstar. Other confirmed technical crew includes cinematographer Girish Gangadharan and stunt choreographer duo Anbariv.
Earlier, Lokesh had discussions with ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ for a Pan India project but it didn’t take off. Even some reports claimed that he is playing a character in ‘Coolie’. While both Lokesh & Rajini are riding high on the success of ‘Leo’ & ‘Jailer’ respectively, Aamir has taken a long break after the Box-Office debacle of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. It seems like Aamir is looking to revamp his career with this project that is certain to help him regain his spot in the top league. A huge commercial success is looming around the corner for the star who is rated as the Mr. Perfectionist of Indian Cinema.
Aamir is currently busy with the release of his new movie ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’. He had started shooting for the movie in February, 2024 and subsequently wrapped up filming on June 15.
Directed by R S Prasanna, the movie also stars Genelia Deshmukh in a key role. The film is touted to be a fun- filled sports drama that revolves around Down Syndrome. The movie is tentatively planned for Christmas release. Recently in a podcast show with Rhea Chakraborty, he has opened up about his desire to leave acting and concentrate on other departments of filmmaking.
