Jailer Movie Review

What can happen when a 70 plus Superstar tries to revamp his career by playing to his strengths.? This is exactly what Rajnikanth a.k.a Thalaivar did with Jailer. He plays a character who is a grandfather to a 6 year old kid and lets the director use his swag and style to full potential.

Nelson uses comedy just like his previous movies and mixes it with some elevation scenes catering to the masses. Nelson’s strength is his comedy while Rajinikanth’s strength is mass persona. When the mixture is perfect, the ultimate product is a superior commercial film. The film boasts of a dazzling Anirudh Ravichandran who plays a pulsating BGM to each and every action scene in the movie. His track is enough to generate an adrenaline rush among the audience. The comedy scenes work due to an exceptionally talented Yogi Babu, Sunil and the surprising Jaffar Sadique. Yet, this is no way close to the hilarious Doctor or Kolamavu Kokila. Similarly, the emotional sequences do not have a clear cut connection from the start to end.

The writing is at fault here as these sequences are added as fillers to the mix. Makers do forget at times they have placed some characters exactly for this purpose. Despite that, the making and placement if certain scenes gets the desired output. The intermission sequence and climax sequence takes the movie to a different league. The antagonist was too good in the first half while in the latter half, the character was downplayed. But fortunately with a reasonably good performance, the impact wasn’t left missing. Now coming to the most important factor which is the iconic portrayal of 3 superstars, they have created a mayhem. Jailer definitely has one of the best cameos in Indian cinema history.
