Get Set Baby Review.!
Get Set Baby has a cheerful premise and emotionally connects to a few characters, yet an incomplete arrangement.
Rating: 2.5/5
Unni Mukundan was recently seen as a violent man in the Blockbuster Marco. Here, we see him ascending from a humble Gynaecologist to a successful entrepreneur. The premise is more gratifying, built around a doctor and several couples who are expecting babies. We see a lot about some couples who have been trying to conceive a baby for a long time. This plot is perfectly set for an emotional rollercoaster ride. At the centre of these couples, is Dr Arjun Balakrishnan, played by Unni Mukundan. He gets involved with these couples both professionally and personally that the whole movie is built around these moments.
The story moves pretty fast, where we see an aspiring medical student becoming a successful doctor and then suddenly transforms into an entrepreneur. A few dialogues were delightful, supporting a male perspective in the field of gynaecology. Moreover, Arjun is a loveable gentleman, who is sensitive towards women, reassuring his patients. These scenes were a welcome sign, where the protagonist is portrayed with a gentle and caring nature. The film never goes to that side where people look at a male Gynaecologists with shady eyes. In fact, there is a scene where we see a local midwife performing a delivery inside the labour room of a rural hospital. Arjun is the intern Gynaecologist but he is not allowed inside the labour room. This is a fun scene, where the bystanders of the patient are fine with it because the midwife is apparently an expert. The justification is Male Gynaecologists are a new thing for the rural people. This could be one way to treat things on a lighter note but more than that, this doesn’t sound ethical at all.

Arjun’s rise to a successful IVF specialist and a reputed Gynaecologist are built around some interesting episodes. It was heart warming to watch the sequences involving Chemban Vinod & Fara Shibla. It was never going overboard or getting stretched but these episodes had the right mix of emotional and satisfying moments. After this, there is a sudden time jump. Everything happens so fast and is covered through a song. There are several minor plots running in parallel and several minor characters who leaves an impression. Ganga Meera’s Nurse character, Jhansi was the most favourite out of the lot. It is not because of a powerful character arc, but she leaves the desired impact every time she makes an appearance in a few scenes. She represents the forgotten woman around us who is selfless and really cares for you. The couple, Sudheesh & Surabhi serve the most dramatic and emotional element in the film. They are the long waiting couple in the story for a child and Surabhi’s performance hits bulls eye in one particular scene.

Every episodes that work in the film are relatable. It is the parallel stories of these characters that drive the film. But the pivotal plot point involving Arjun hasn’t been that exciting. The central conflict in Arjun’s story couldn’t produce any significant interest. It strays away to different paths. At times, it seemed like the plot is going to addresses the emotional struggle of the protagonist. At another time, the plot pretends to be Arjun’s shot at redemption. So, it was the dramatic episodes holding the film, that happens intermittently. Also, there is humour in the film but it occurs very rarely and doesn’t last more than a minute. The frames are colourful and the entire premise appears colourful, yet it lacked tight episodes. Vinay Govind could have done a lot in terms of direction. Lastly, Unni Mukundan & Nikhila Vimal are fine but it was the other characters, who took over the center stage with less screen time.
Get Set Baby definitely connects with the content but there aren’t much exciting elements.
