Alappuzha Gymkhana Review..!!

Alappuzha Gymkhana is a light hearted sports comedy, barring the emotional disconnect in the latter half.

Rating – 3/5

The film tells the story about a group of boys who seeks boxing as a way to pass their higher secondary examinations and to acquire admission in college through sports quota. The film moves through the point of view of Jojo played by Naslen, who is the main man of the pack.

The pack consisting Baby Jean, Sandeep Pradeep, Shiva Hariharan and Franco Francis was impressive along with the outsiders who joins them later played by Ganapathi, Shon Roy and Anandu, all were given spaces for some clap worthy moments too. Lukman as the coach was well presented. The female characters played by Anagha Ravi, Noila Francy and Nandha and all other artists like Kottayam Nazeer, Abu Salim, Salim Hasan, Franco have done their parts well.

Jojo, played by Naslen leads the pack of boys

Script wise the movie had a lot of scope which was expected from a sport drama, but completely doomed here. Lack of emotional connect and preachy approaches at some points to bring in some unconventional ideas than the usual ideas have slightly backfired here. Boxing sequences were really impressive and executed with utmost conviction. Technical research on boxing was well observed, trained and executed with the actor’s which was evident in the fight sequences.

The making by Khalid resembled that of his previous works. Jimshi Khalid’s cinematography work is commendable specially the way Boxing sequences and fights were shot. Vishnu Vijay’s music was the main plus point of the movie, from the beginning till the end the music was consistent and lifted the movie throughout. The three songs which already have released online was good and apt for the situations.

Overall, a watchable entertainer in a sports background which will entertain still makes you feel like missing so much things, obviously from a Khalid Rahman project what was expected didn’t delivered here.
