Agatha All Along (miniseries) Review..!!
Finally, the first season of the latest entry in the MCU’s TV world’s Agatha All Along came to an end, and sadly, I am unable to surmise the whole nine episodes with neither a negative nor a negative note. The apparent lack of the usual hype an MCU project receives came out as a savior here for regulating the amount of jibes a TV series like this would usually get. Agatha All Along is not MCU’s worst TV show. But it is not a’remarkable work’ either. In fact, we wonder if a majority of the audience would even remember this show after a few years. Let’s go back to the world of Agatha’s adventure once again.
Agatha All Along is about a journey in which a group led by Agatha undertakes to visit a place that so far remains a mystery known as the ‘Witches Road’. In the beginning of the show, she is shown to be living in the limbo state, which was inflicted by Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlett Witch (events of WandaVision). She was awakened from such a life by a boy who was later addressed by everyone as ‘The Teen’. It was his desire to visit ‘The Road,’ and Agatha managed to assemble a team consisting of her, The Teen, a couple of witches, and a neighbor from next door. Once the door to ‘The Road’ was open, the team entered and faced several challenges in order to achieve their final task. They are also joined by another lady with whom Agatha has some ‘history’. What follows from afterwards is a tale of unfolding mysteries, motives, and some thrills associated with all the challenges they would come across in their journey.
On the positive side, Agatha All Along has its own share of whims and jests. There is definitely nothing exemplary but enough to entertain us through out. Kathryn Hahn did a good job portraying Agatha, but she also does come across as a bit too idiosyncratic, which not everyone would simply approve. There are, of course, some neat visuals within the series, enough to satiate the atmosphere everyone desires within a work belonging to the fantasy genre. Of course, some of the reveals came out as surprises and as interesting turnouts. On a personal note, the show had something within, which was enough to make me feel slightly (only ‘slightly’, I must say) hooked on and wait for each episode each week.
But again, there are also a lot of negative sides, which I can’t help but state here. First of all, the show lacked the kind of punch it needed to make everyone feel engaged and excited. From the beginning itself, Agatha All Along failed to garner any sort of enthusiasm it needed to succeed. A part of it was because of the amount of tarnished reputation MCU has received recently (apropos of all of it, a majority of their TV works ended up either as a failure or a disappointment). The critical reception (apart from the highly positive rating IGN bestowed on it) from the majority of the critics made the situation much worse. Agatha All Along badly wanted something more than ‘good’ or a ‘great’ moment or a scene to promulgate it to one of the hot topics within the streaming world, but sadly, it didn’t have any such sort.
Another major problem of the show was the lack of consistency throughout. There were indeed ‘some’ interesting moments within, but there was also a lot of dullness within. This sporadic flow is one major reason as to why I would cite the show as something that belongs to the ‘mediocre’ category and, most importantly, make the show largely ‘forgettable’. I doubt if Agatha All Along would be at least mentioned in the future, in comparison with some of the largely panned works of MCU. Its a sad outcome, but its highly unsalvageable. The latest episodes today made things really worse for me. I was initially satisfied with the ‘happy ending’ in the eighth episode, but it ended up being a bummer in a way. The final episode turned out to be the worst and most reprehensible within. In fact, it was a quite unwanted and pointless resolution, spoiling even the light mood we experienced at first. To be fair, I personally thought that its storyline could’ve been told well within the episodes before if it had been written well and had slightly extended the duration.
Overall, Agatha All Along is a disappointing product from the studios, and fans might find it irksome noting how well The Penguin is faring on HBO. This once and for all adds another stain to the already falling TV world of MCU. It also makes us feel disinterested towards their shows once again; only God knows if it’ll finally have the redemption, it badly needs.
